“Oh, please, Quickpaw, can we stop for one moment? Please?” Shykit whined, stumbling across a pile of rocks. Quickpaw accepted the plea quickly. They were in the middle of a forest; he could see the rocks covered in moss and smelled prey scent everywhere. “Sure.” he answered tiredly. Ravenpaw said wearily, “We will leave in two days after we've rested.” “This is a nice place!” Daisykit’s voice was faint and muffled. “Daisykit? Where are you?” Silverclaw meowed in alarm. Daisykit emerged from a nearby pile of rocks. Interested, Quickpaw trotted over to them. “Great Star Clan!” he mewed. “There’s a huge hollow in these rocks. The other kits rushed over. Indeed, there was a huge hollow! Big enough to fit plenty of cats… “I’ve got it!” Quickpaw mewed excitedly. “This is our camp! There is everything we need here.” Ravenpaw looked into the hollow once again. “It seems big enough to fit plenty of cats, and it also has a narrow entrance. It could be very hard to attack with proper shielding! I think it’s perfect, Quickpaw.” Silverclaw nodded in respect. “You have made a excellent choice. Then she called, “Daisykit, Shykit, Strongkit, and Leftkit!” “Yes?” they mewed. They had entered the cave again. Quickpaw padded inside. He surveyed it. Suddenly a loud screech came from the back of the cave. “Daisykit!” Silverpelt wailed. She raced into the corner. Sighing with relief, she realized Daisykit was fine. Quickpaw ran up. “Daisykit, what scared you?” for he could see her eyes were staring into the darkness, obviously deathly afraid of something. “A-a badg-ger! Ov-ver the-e-re!” she stuttered. Quickpaw’s eyes filled with horror when he saw a large badger emerge from the darkness. Silverclaw gathered her kits around her, growling. Quickpaw braced himself and prepared to leap, when a voice startled him. “Don't pounce.” He stared in unbelief. The badger sighed. “You cats never get over me talking, do you!” Sighing again, she rumbled off again. “Don’t worry Silverclaw, and Ravenpaw. Suddenly Ravenpaw gasped. “I know you, Midnight! Bramblestar told me all about you!” Turning to Silverclaw and Quickpaw, he added, “You can trust her. She helped many cats. She would help us.” “I leave you for six days. I will return with instruction and good tidings.” Midnight said. Quickpaw, who was now big enough to be a warrior, stood up to his full hight and answered, "We will wait."
