Shinepaw was centered on her prey, tail swishing in the long reeds surrounding the river. Eyes glued to her quarry, she didn't notice Badgerkit creeping up beside her. He stared intently at the water mole. Shinepaw, still focused on her prey, mewed faintly, "Shhh. Don't move." Badgerkit, excited to be hunting, shifted on to his hind legs and made ready to pounce. The mole twitched it's ears. Badgerkit, sensing it's nervousness, crouched low and pounced. Mewling, he landed flat on the water mole, which was almost as big as he was. It kicked him off and scuttled into the river. "Badgerkit!" Shinepaw mewed fiercely. "Get back to camp!" Badgerkit crept back toward camp. Shinepaw sighed in exasperation. Badgerkit was such a handful. When would he learn to stay out of other's business. business strutted back into camp, carrying a large fish. "All cats old enough to catch prey gather!" Skystar yowled. "Shinepaw, do you promise to follow the warrior's code, and serve your clan with no delay for as long as you live?" warrior's mewed confidently, "I do." "Then by the power of Star Clan," mewed Skystar, "I give you your warrior name, Shineheart!" Shineheart touched noses with Skystar, and turned to face the crowd. Brakentail nodded. A cat started chanting, "Shineheart!" and soon the whole clan was congratulating the new warrior. congratulating proudly padded into the clearing. "As this is your first night as a warrior, you must keep vigil until the sun rises." Skystar added. "I will, " Shineheart answered. She was a warrior now.
